Miami in Two Languages
Digital work by Denia Matías
Curatorial text
*Miami in Two Languages* brings together a selection of digital works by Denia Matías, born from the observation of a city that reveals itself through its light, architecture, palm trees, and the daily movement of its streets.
The exhibition offers a journey through two visual languages that coexist within a single artistic vision. On one hand, there is *Cubami*—a language developed by the artist based on a contemporary interpretation of Cubist structures—where planes, geometric shapes, and fragmentation reconstruct the city through color and rhythm. On the other, there is a more direct form of digital figuration, in which the image maintains a recognizable connection to the urban landscape while remaining infused with the artist's painterly sensibility.
Works such as *Ocean Drive Sleep*, *Gafas en la playa* (Glasses on the Beach), *Pasos* (Steps), *Ocean Drive Sun*, *Camino a Brickell* (Road to Brickell), and *Miami Beach Vida* (Miami Beach Life) construct small scenes of a shared experience: walking through, observing, and remembering Miami.
Rather than simply documenting specific locations, Denia transforms impressions of the city into visual memory. Thus, two distinct languages ultimately speak to the same thing: the way a place we inhabit ceases to be merely a landscape and becomes a personal experience.
